Leaving Canaan's

We had a fairly uneventful drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park on Tuesday. We stopped at the Equator to eat lunch and take a break as it was an all day drive. Upon arriving in the gates of the park, we saw some zebras and an elephant on the side of the road! It was a great way to usher us into our safari. We were thankful to have hot showers and a nice meal before bed.

On Wednesday morning, we woke up to a 6:00 a.m. breakfast before our morning game drive. We saw many buffalo, waterbuck, elephants, Ugandan kob (similar to an antelope), and many types of birds. We were really searching for a lion or leopard, but didn't see any. 

In the afternoon, we went on a boat ride in the national park and saw many animals feeding and bathing. The scenery was beautiful and we learned a lot about the animals we saw because of the boat guide. On our way back to the lodge, Ahmed, our wonderful safari guide, did see a leopard this evening, but we had a hard time seeing it through the brush.

On Thursday morning, we went on another morning game drive beginning at 6:30. the highlight of the ride was off-roading to get near a lioness! It was amazing.

Following the game drive, we went on a walk through the forest hoping to see primates. We saw baboons, colabus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, a cobra and a bat cave absolutely FULL of bats! 

We just arrived at our hotel and will fly out tomorrow evening. We are tired, and ready to be home! Please pray for safe travels and health!
